Alfredo Vaamonde, co-founder of MissionHires, emphasizes a progressive vision for the future of recruitment by positioning artificial intelligence as a partner to human recruiters, rather than a replacement. His Miami-based startup empowers recruiters, automating up to 80% of the hiring process, which allows recruiters to concentrate on connecting with top candidates and enhancing their hiring decisions.

By shifting from typical placement fees, which can range from 15% to 25% of a candidate’s salary, to a flat-fee, retainer-based pricing model, MissionHires significantly reduces costs for recruiting and staffing agencies. Vaamonde asserts, “We’re quick, we’re focused on quality, and we’re very cost-efficient,” highlighting how this strategy fosters more value for clients.

Initially focused on individual employers, the company’s pivot towards staffing and recruiting firms marks a notable expansion opportunity, as agencies are now driving much of MissionHires’ growth. Although healthcare companies and startups are key clients, recurring business with agencies represents a promising trajectory for the startup.

The platform is designed for ease of use, where recruiters can post job descriptions and leverage AI to generate ideal candidate profiles. It identifies both active and passive candidates, reaching out via email, text, or LinkedIn. Candidates engage in a brief 15–20 minute chat-based interview, during which the AI collects various responses—text, audio, or video—tailored to client preferences. This innovative approach leads to a detailed report outlining candidate skills and strengths, streamlining the recruitment process for recruiters by providing a shortlist of pre-screened candidates for further interviews.

Vaamonde explains that this automation alleviates recruiters from manual tasks, enabling them to engage with candidates more efficiently rather than sifting through numerous resumes and emails. Since its launch in January, MissionHires has generated around $10,000 in monthly revenue, utilizing a lean team of four, including Vaamonde and his wife, Mariana Escolar.

Expanding his vision, Vaamonde believes that MissionHires can serve various industries worldwide. Having recently moved back to Miami after two years in Madrid, he shares an invigorated perspective on the local tech landscape, observing significant changes in the entrepreneurial energy since his previous venture, Papa, was founded. Vaamonde remarks on the movement of talent from other tech hubs to Miami, a stark contrast to the region’s earlier lack of a robust tech ecosystem.

Despite the growth, Vaamonde acknowledges the need for more home-grown talent in the Miami startup arena. He expresses a desire to see more local entrepreneurs emerge, advocating that universities and large companies must play an active role in nurturing future founders.
