Cedars-Sinai, a prominent health system in Los Angeles, is tackling access and administrative hurdles in healthcare through innovative technology. In response to long wait times and burdensome paperwork, they have implemented an artificial intelligence-based virtual platform known as Cedars-Sinai Connect. This initiative was launched in 2023 in collaboration with K-Health, and initial studies indicate its effectiveness in improving patient care.

CS Connect provides patients with 24/7 access to healthcare support via a mobile app or website. The system utilizes chat-based symptom intake and integrates patient records to deliver treatment recommendations that are subsequently reviewed and approved by physicians. Unique features of the tool include prompting patients to upload images of symptoms, such as rashes, thus enhancing the diagnostic process. This functionality allows healthcare professionals to devote more attention to care decisions rather than administrative tasks.

A study conducted in 2025 revealed that the recommendations made by CS Connect significantly outperformed those from traditional physician consultations. Specifically, 77% of AI-driven recommendations were deemed optimal, compared to 67% of those provided by physicians. Caroline Goldzweig, chief medical officer of Cedars-Sinai Medical Network, noted that while CS Connect aligns closely with clinical guidelines, physicians are better positioned to apply these guidelines with the unique context of individual cases in mind. However, it is important to recognize that the study focused on a limited number of medical conditions.

Since its debut, more than 42,000 patients have engaged with CS Connect, driving Cedars-Sinai to expand its capabilities. Future enhancements will include features for remote monitoring of chronic illnesses and improved integration with both virtual and in-person healthcare services, ultimately aiming for a more efficient and personalized healthcare experience.
