Tracing

A method used to monitor, debug, and understand the execution of an LLM application by providing a detailed snapshot of a single invocation or operation within the application, which can be anything from a single call to an LLM or chain, to a prompt formatting call, to a runnable lambda invocation.

Tracing

Areas of application

  • * Debugging and troubleshooting LLM applications
  • * Optimizing performance by identifying bottlenecks
  • * Understanding the flow of data and control within an LLM application
  • * Identifying security vulnerabilities and implementing mitigations
  • * Compliance monitoring and reporting
  • * Testing and validation of LLM applications

Example

For example, if an LLM application is experiencing slow performance, tracing can be used to identify the bottleneck operation and optimize it. Or, if an error occurs during execution, tracing can help pinpoint the root cause and debug the issue.
