Drivers of Mercedes cars are set to experience a new level of interaction with their vehicles thanks to an upcoming AI-powered upgrade. This enhancement, which is compatible with many models equipped with the MBUX infotainment system, enables drivers to engage in human-like conversations with their cars.
The free upgrade leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to furnish drivers with clear and relevant answers to a variety of questions. By connecting to the Microsoft Azure OpenAI and utilizing Microsoft Bing web search data, this system facilitates a seamless dialogue between the car and its driver.
Over three million Mercedes vehicles will be eligible for this feature, allowing drivers to ask questions that span a wide range of subjects, including pop culture, geography, science, and history. Notably, the MBUX Voice Assistant is capable of understanding follow-up queries, enhancing the interactive experience.
In addition to general knowledge inquiries, drivers can pose questions related to current weather, news updates, and sports scores. Activation is straightforward; drivers simply need to say, “Hey Mercedes” to activate the system.
Markus Schäfer, a member of the board of management of Mercedes‑Benz Group AG, expressed enthusiasm about this development, stating, “By adding an AI-driven knowledge feature to our MBUX Voice Assistant, we are making it even easier for customers to connect with their vehicle in an entertaining and rewarding way.” He highlighted that the unique AI software integrates with ChatGPT and Bing via the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, signifying a major step forward in automotive technology.
Importantly, the update will be accessible directly to vehicle owners through an on-screen prompt, eliminating the need for a dealership visit. This convenience underscores Mercedes’ commitment to enhancing user experience through technology.
