Elon Musk has officially announced the launch of Grok 3, xAI’s latest large language model (LLM), which is set to debut on Monday at 8:30 PM Pacific Time (10:00 AM India time). Musk made this declaration through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), designating Grok 3 as the “smartest AI on Earth.” He also shared that he would be refining the product over the weekend, indicating a commitment to ensure the model’s readiness.

During his address at the Dubai World Government Summit earlier this week, Musk elaborated on Grok 3’s capabilities, labeling it as “scary smart” due to its efficient training processes. He emphasized Grok 3’s powerful reasoning abilities, asserting that initial tests show it exceeding the performance of current AI models. “This thing comes up with solutions that you didn’t even think—you wouldn’t even anticipate,” Musk remarked, underscoring the model’s advanced problem-solving skills.

Musk explained that Grok 3 was developed using an extensive amount of compute resources and trained on a large dataset, which includes synthetic data. Noteworthy is the model’s functionality of self-correction; it actively identifies and eliminates inaccurate data, ensuring logical consistency within its reasoning framework.

Rivalry with OpenAI

In a related development, Musk has made headlines with a record $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI’s non-profit arm, although this offer was promptly rejected by OpenAI’s board. Despite this setback, the competitive tensions between xAI and OpenAI have escalated significantly. Musk criticized OpenAI for deviating from its original vision, stating that it was intended to be an open-source, non-profit initiative, yet has turned into a profit-driven entity.

The AI landscape has become even more competitive with the emergence of Chinese startup DeepSeek, which has introduced cost-effective AI solutions into the market, heightening the stakes for Western AI companies.
