Alibaba ASI Roadmap Unveiled

In a potentially game-changing move for the technology sector, Alibaba has unveiled its ambitious $52 billion roadmap aimed at achieving artificial super intelligence (ASI), as detailed in a video by Fireship on YouTube titled “Alibaba is going all in on Qwen…”. Announced during the Apsara 2025 conference, this extensive plan consists of three phases: the emergence of generalized AI, the development of autonomous actions, and the realization of self-iterating AI capable of interacting with the physical world. Alibaba envisions these advancements culminating by 2032, albeit with skepticism over such a timeline’s feasibility. Their latest AI models, launched during the conference, include Qwen 3 Max, with its enormous parameter count and advanced architecture, and Qwen 3VL, a vision-language model excelling in a unique benchmark called Clockbench. They also presented Qwen 3 Omni, a multi-modal model emphasizing interactivity. Fireship humorously notes Alibaba’s aggressive approach, likening their passion to being “addicted to creatine laced with Adderall.” While Alibaba promises open source and open weight models, there remains the lingering question of whether these ambitious plans can truly elevate them to become the “Android of the AI era,” especially given the bold claim of reaching ASI by 2032.
