EU AI Act Compliance Requirements

EU AI Legislation: The European Union has finalized the AI Act, a pioneering legislation aimed at regulating artificial intelligence. This act introduces a risk-based approach to AI, imposing stricter regulations on technologies considered to pose significant societal risks. It notably prohibits certain AI systems, including those used for cognitive behavioral manipulation and social scoring, due to their unacceptable risk levels. The legislation also bans AI for predictive policing and categorizing individuals by race, religion, or sexual orientation using biometric data. General-purpose AI models with no systemic risks will face minimal transparency requirements, while those with systemic risks must adhere to more stringent rules. The act establishes multiple governing bodies for enforcement, including an AI office within the European Commission and a scientific panel of independent experts. Non-compliance can result in fines ranging from €7.5 million to €35 million.
