In this video, NVIDIA showcases the advancements of Earth-2, a planetary digital twin platform that integrates AI, simulation, and observational data to enhance weather and climate predictions. Earth-2 leverages the generative AI model, Cordi, which was trained on WRF numerical simulations to generate weather patterns at 12 times higher resolution, from 25 km to 2 km. This allows for more precise regional weather predictions, particularly beneficial for applications like typhoon landfall forecasting in Taiwan. The video also highlights the next frontier of hyper-local forecasting, which aims to predict weather phenomena down to tens of meters, accounting for city infrastructure. By combining high-resolution data from models like PALM with weather simulations, Earth-2 can model airflow around buildings and predict phenomena such as downwash. This fusion of AI, physics simulations, and observational data in Earth-2 provides a powerful tool for countries and companies to anticipate and respond to extreme weather events.
